The Veterans Institute performs a wide spectrum of veteran policy activities on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Defence. It promotes and offers assistance and services to veterans and their home front, stimulates the social recognition for veterans and acts as knowledge and research centre in the field of veteran-related subjects.
The Veterans Institute has a Central Registration Point, where veterans and their relatives can submit questions and problems related with war and military mission experiences. Social workers or other professionals will deal with the request and, if necessary, they will guide the veteran to other (social) institutions.
The Veterans Institute provides the veteran card, which offers several benefits, such as the free veterans magazine and free train tickets to attend commemorations and reunions. Furthermore, the Veterans Institute promotes the social recognition, pursuing a media policy and organising education, publications and lectures, as well as supporting veterans events such as the annual Dutch Veterans Day on 29 June.
